You're so good at putting them into coherent words - my thoughts tend to stay safely jumbled up inside my head!Meaghanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16300244578298282210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3735033980607896594.post-45887741257119534402014-07-05T14:44:01.666+10:002014-07-05T14:44:01.666+10:00A lovely discussion of the difference between what...A lovely discussion of the difference between what being an adult is portrayed/conceived as, and what it is really like! Although I am in the midst of a PhD, have been supporting myself and living on my own for 9 years (eep!), and have traveled a fair bit of the world, I still often feel like I'm not a "real" adult, because I don't have a car, a home, a spouse, a child, a fancy job, or most of those other things I see my peers and the people in movies have. On the other hand, I can spend 7 hours in a coffee shop reading, go grocery shopping in a deserted Wednesday morning store, and change 0 poopy diapers.

It all comes down to the choices I make. I choose not to have a car or house because I want to be in grad school, and that means a very limited income right now. I choose to embrace the freedom of being single and child-free and use my time to travel. I choose to study a thing I love and do a job I like, rather than go for the super stressful career that eats my soul.

Being a grown-up really means making all the choices, and living with their consequences. And, honestly, I really like most of the choices I have made, and I definitely like where they have taken me. :-)

Hooray for being an adult!Aseahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08826709753219815266noreply@blogger.com
