Awesome thing of the day #8

My little brother woke up this morning full of all sorts of great ideas (this is not unusual). "So, what's the plan?" he asked (this, too, is fairly standard). "I have to study," I told him, "and you have to do school." His response: -- "NO STUDY TODAY."

Later, when I made my way into my office, I grinned when I found two cute love notes stuck to my door. I raced downstairs to thank Tain. "You made me love notes!" I cried, "thank you!" "No," he said seriously, "NO STUDY! NOT ALLOWED."

Sure enough, when I looked a little closer, the previously-assumed adorable portrait of delighted older sister was actually a picture of me sitting in front of a bunch of books -- with a big cross over the books and a cross over me. And that friendly "yo" in the second note, which I thought was just Tain's cool gangster way of saying hi? I'm pretty sure it's meant to be "no." And the pink post-it notes were obviously just close handy. So... yeah.

Awesome thing of the day #7

I remember spending a lot of time as a small girl gazing at a poster of a treehouse. With about a dozen rooms in individual pods branching off from, well, branches, it defied all laws of engineering and gravity. Somehow, though, it pulled me in as stories could pull me in. I wanted to be in that picture so much I almost was.

That ability to be lost in something entirely imaginary has faded a little bit -- perhaps it's reached a more healthy level now? -- but I felt a tinge of it again when I saw this incredible Camper Bike, built by Kevin Cyr. Is this or this not amazing? Your own little house, wherever you ride! *hearts*

Mitanika -- ooh, link love! Going to check out that motivational rap now :).

Samantha -- ah, you don't miss anything! I saw that "late twenties" lingering there the other day and just couldn't bring myself to change it yet. Maybe I should erase all references to age? ;)

Staish -- :D Do you have the whole album?

Awesome thing of the day #6

Uni started back last week after the Holidays Of Serious Enjoyment, and my lack of attention to blogging is painfully evident. Until I roll my sleeves up and make a proper post, please enjoy the sixth Awesome Thing of the Day: a mash-up of the David Crowder*Band's performances of Oh Happiness during their Summer of Happiness 2010 Tour.

Excited crowds, Crowder with crazy hair, Hogan synthesizing, a drum-robot called Steve3PO, smiley faces, and happiness because of grace. What could be more excellent?

Jessicarose -- so cool to meet you through this crazy world that is blogging! I think I have an idea who you are -- do you know my cousin Fran? And the Fosters?

Katie -- Giant spiders are definitely one terrifying aspect of my life I'd rather live without. I genuinely shudder just thinking about them.

Staish -- let's talk seam allowance sometime soon!

Samantha -- :D Aw, thanks! You encourage me to keep blogging!

Meaghan -- You KNOW those are my favourite kinds of puns. They don't make me groan; they make me smile. See? :D

Anonymous -- shucks! Is that you, Mum?

Andrea -- I got a comment from you! My blogging life is complete!

Awesome thing of the day #5

I really should be making a post about my weekend (celebrity sightings! breakfast at cafes! sleepover buddies! Hitchcock horror! broken noses! 5am bedtimes!) and my Monday (Toy Story 3 and happy times with friends) but instead I really just want to show you these amazing fingerless gloves that Ruth made for me.

They are so cool and they make my hands so happy! The only problem is that I don't want to take them off at all. Everything is much cosier and definitely more punk-artistic while I'm wearing them. Plus: I can type in these things!

Thank you, Ruth. Amazing.

Awesome thing of the day #4

Guess who found orange moccassins with lemon-and-white-striped lining while she was shopping with her mama and sister last night? Mm hmm, I have happy feet.

PS. You can expect other posts of similarly startling insight and intelligence during these next few weeks leading up to The Great Wedding of 2010 and the Epic End of Semester.

Mail day of fabulousness.

Today was a very down day for a million reasons and for no reason at all. I could tell you why there was gloom but I'd rather tell you it was perfect timing that this amazing little package got stuffed into my mailbox today.

A little while ago, an awesome handmade creative mail swap project did the facebook circuit. I'm still on the go with the gifts I'm making for a half a dozen or so friends (roll on the holidays for creative good times, I say!), but today I received a gift myself. Yaaay!

For starters: just lookit the packaging! I bet every postman or mail sorter who had to touch that package smiled and wished they could open it. Seriously.

And then, inside the Mailing Envelope of Greatness, was the Tote Bag of Awesomeness! Long-ago school friend Sarah has hand-painted and hand-inked this tote bag into sheer adorability and it's an absolute work of art. I am currently tossing up whether to a) actually use it or b) hang it on the wall and gaze on the loveliness instead.

Thank you, Sarah! It's so gorgeous and completely brightened my grey day.
P.S. Sarah has an etsy store where the cuteness continues. Check it! Little Miss Swan.

Awesome thing of the day #1

Spotted in a Target store:
Whodda thought it, huh? I'm actually not a big fan of Christian merchandising, but I was never more happily surprised by a shopping trip. Apparently the t-shirt line is a tie-in for World Youth Day but it doesn't really matter, either way. It was simply neat to see the Word of God in a Target store!
